US economy expands 3.9 percent in Q3


(MENAFN) According to the US Commerce Department, the country's real gross domestic product (GDP) surged annually by 3.9 percent in the July-September period, Xinhua reported.

The figures were higher than an initial forecast of 3.5 percent. However, the GDP grew at a slower pace compared to the second-quarter period, in which it expanded 4.6 percent.

Exports increased 4.9 percent, which is slower than an increase of 11.1 percent on-quarter, while personal consumption, which accounts for about 70 percent of the economy, grew 2.2 percent.

Nonresidential fixed investment increased 7.1 percent, down from 9.7 percent in the second quarter. Residential fixed investment increased 2.7 percent, down from 8.8 percent on-quarter.
