Kuwait- MPs Approve Weapons Bill


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Legal and Legislative Committee approved Tuesday the Weapons Collection Bill and referred it to the Parliament for voting on Dec 2. Committee Chairman MP Abdullah Al-Mayouf said they discussed three proposals presented by MPs on the collection of weapons and one from the Interior Ministry with representatives of the latter.

He revealed the ministry's bill consists of two parts - one on the penalty and another on methods of collecting weapons.

He confirmed approval of 95 percent of the articles of the bill, indicating the Parliament will vote on the proposal in the upcoming session. He stressed the need to look into the current situation in the region, particularly the terrorist elements trying to brainwash the youths.

He said the ministry's representatives acknowledged the fact that weapons have become widespread among citizens. He affirmed the committee is keen on pushing for approval of the bill.

In another development, MP Mohammed Tanna has forwarded questions to Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud on a book entitled, "The Truth about Homosexuality in Islam", written by Othman Farhat and displayed in the Moroccan pavilion at Kuwait International Book Fair. He wants to know who allowed the display of such book in the exhibition, the agency tasked to monitor the event, criteria for the selection of books displayed at the exhibition, and list of books banned from the 2014 and 2015 book fair.

Meanwhile, MPs Nabil Al-Fadel, Youssef Al-Zalazalah, Abdullah Al- Mayouf, Abdullah Al-Turaij and Khalil Abdullah presented a draft bill to amend the voting system in unions, sports clubs, non-profit organizations and trade unions.

Article One of the bill states each voter in the elections of unions, sports clubs, non-profit organizations and trade unions has the right to vote for one candidate; otherwise, it will be null and void. Article Two stipulates that any provision contradicting this bill is null and void. Article Three states the prime minister and ministers shall implement the bill after its publication in the official gazette

Furthermore, 10 MPs have submitted a request for a special session, in accordance with articles 72 and 146 of the legislative bylaw, to discuss and clarify the government's policy on diversifying sources of national revenues.
