Lithuania marks Oman's National Day, seeks further cooperation


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Lithuania recently celebrated His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's 74th birthday and Oman's 44th National Day by hosting a reception in Vilnius.

The reception was hosted by the Honorary Consulate of Oman in Lithuania stated a press release. 'Since the opening of the consulate last January we have witnessed bilateral ties expanding and awareness rising among Lithuanians as far as Oman is concerned. I believe this can serve as a solid ground for future cooperation' said Mantvydas Bekesius deputy minister of foreign affairs Lithuania addressing a group of guests including officials from the President's Office and the government as well as representatives of leading education and health institutions business people and the media.

'In fact closer ties between the countries are already showing. Several groups of Omani students are to arrive in Kaunas to study next year. We are also seeing an increase in cultural and business exchange between the two countries' he added.

Boleta Senkiene the Honorary Consul of Oman in Lithuania said that the birthday of His Majesty the Sultan is the most important national celebration in Oman.

'Most of Oman's current achievements on the way of modernisation of different spheres of life are related to the country's leader who has been in office since 1970' Boleta said. 'These include huge investment in infrastructure support for small businesses arts and culture development of industry trade and tourism and the increase of Oman's role in regional and international affairs.'

Boleta said that providing assistance to Lithuanian and Omani businesses looking for cooperation is one of the key strategic tasks of the consulate.

'Oman is a relatively small country yet it offers a doorway to the entire Arabian peninsula which is a huge market in any consideration' she said.

'Lithuania on the other hand might serve as a springboard to the wider market of Baltic and Nordic countries for businesses in Oman and further away in the region.'
