(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Monday, received a delegation of US Congress, members of the Committee on Armed Services and the House Budget Committee, chaired by Rep. Rob Wittman.
During the meeting, they reviewed ways to enhance Jordanian-American friendship, especially in the areas of military cooperation and the role of the Kingdom in maintaining security and stability in the region. In that context, His Majesty the King valued the US support to Jordan, enabling it to implement development and reform programs in various fields.
The meeting also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, especially regional and international efforts to counter the threat of terrorist organizations and extremist ideology, and deal with them in order to preserve the security and stability of the region and the safety of its people.
The King asserted Jordan's role in the peace process and its continued support to the peace efforts that would bring peace and stability in the region, through establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the July 4, 1967 borders, with east Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.
King Abdullah stressed that the Kingdom will continue its efforts to protect and preserve the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, support the steadfastness of its people and protect their rights, according to the Hashemite custodianship of the holy places in the city.
His Majesty the King also discussed the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on neighboring countries and the region as a whole, stressing the importance of reaching a comprehensive political solution to the crisis. At the same time, the King expressed his appreciation of the US' support, which enables Jordan to deal with the ramifications of hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with the necessary services.
The US delegation expressed their country's appreciation of Jordan's role under the leadership of His Majesty the King in dealing with the various regional and international issues, and his efforts in achieving global security and stability.
