Student Debt Verses Free Education

Irvine CA – November 25 2014 – Access to education is a key factor in creating global peace security and prosperity says World Education University.

The MOOC (massive open online course) provider founded in 2012 and currently providing services in 173 countries has been consistently dedicated to free global education at a college level. "We believe that access to education is a fundamental human right" the university affirms.

Only 30% of matriculating college or university students graduate successfully and the primary cause of drop-outs is the high cost of tuition. College graduates have a higher employment rate than non-graduates but with student loans second only to mortgages as a source of household debt prospective students are increasingly asking themselves whether the one balances the other.

WEU believes that the burden of student debt (40 million Americans hold such debt four times the entire population of Sweden) is both preventing people from getting the education they want or deserve and holding them back after graduation.

Their solution? Stop charging.

In its online programs WEU has no fees tuition or textbook costs making education 100% free.

The coursework is self-paced and designed to fit a wide variety of student needs and learning strategies. Those without a personal computer can access the program through library or other public devices as their schedules permit. WEU takes full advantage of the online format to make lessons available regardless of background age or available free time.

Maintaining such a high standard of education does however come with significant operating costs - though not as significant as experience of the typical American university might lead one to expect.

WEU has recently begun an IndieGoGo campaign with the goal of raising funding to cover said costs and allow expansion of the program. Primary goals of the campaign include expanding the number of courses offered and offering courses in Spanish Arabic and Chinese in addition to those in English.

The university holds that their ultimate goal goes far beyond providing specific skills and knowledge. The value of an advanced education includes problem-solving strategies applicable in all areas of life.

To support long-term progress through education WEU asks students to honor "The WEU Pay-It-Forward Pledge" which encourages graduates to put their education to use solving real-world issues. "WEU is dedicated to helping find solutions to secure the safety of the planet and prompt global goodwill and humanitarian thinking for generations to come" explains the organization.

The WEU IndieGoGo campaign is scheduled to run until December 25 2014.
