Al Bustan Centre and Residence joins fight against diabetes

(MENAFNEditorial) Dubai, UAE (November 24, 2014): Al Bustan Centre and Residence, the popular hotel-apartment among tourists and businessmen in the heart of Dubai, joined the fight against diabetes by offering free health checks, in cooperation with MediClinic Middle East, at the property for the hotel staff, guests and mall visitors.

The activity, which coincided with the World Diabetes Day (WDD), was spearheaded by ABCR's Human Resources Department as part of the property's corporate social responsibility program. The world-wide campaign is led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and World Health Organization. According to the IDF, 19 per cent of the UAE's adult population suffers from diabetes.

Moussa El Hayek, Chief Operating Officer of Al Bustan Centre & Residence, said: "The health screening campaign put diabetes in the public spotlight. Our aim was to educate the people about the escalating threat posed by the disease and we wanted them to take proactive actions to live a healthy lifestyle for their own benefit and also of their families; because as we say, "Health is Wealth."

ABCR Human Resources & Administration Manager Liza Ortiz added "the health screening campaign was beneficial for the hotel staff as they took time off their busy schedules to examine their health and were informed of the prevention of Type 2 diabetes and the effective management of diabetes to avoid complications."

The free check ups conducted by MediClinic covered the following tests: Total Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, and Body Mass Index (BMI). Another key message of the campaign focused on making healthy food choices.
