Kuwait- Border Staff Under Probe For Clearing Items Without Check


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Customs officers arrested three employees of Salmi Port for allowing truckloads of goods to enter the country without inspecting them or collecting the payment of customs duties, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a security source. He said the three employees are currently undergoing intensive investigations to figure out their motives behind facilitating the entry of many trucks into the country without inspection, which poses a security threat to the country especially if the trucks are carrying prohibited or hazardous materials.

The source affirmed that these employees are working as Customs officer, security and safety official, and records clerk, revealing that the three employees have been placed under surveillance. He added it was proven that the allowed entry of trucks, goods and ATVs are without the consent of the authorized agent in Kuwait. He explained that the driver of a half lorry attempted to enter the country with a large number of ATVs two days ago. He was immediately referred to concerned authorities where he admitted during interrogations that the three employees were facilitating the entry. The three employees were then summoned to the Investigation Office for questioning and for taking necessary legal proceedings against them.

Smuggling bid foiled: Officers at the Air Freight division of Kuwait International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle wiretapping and spying devices that were hidden in a cargo addressed to a Kuwaiti citizen, reports Al-Shahed daily. The devices were hidden in a cargo of pens and lighters that arrived from an Asian country. The officers also foiled an attempt to smuggle counterfeit handbags of well-known international brands. Further investigations are ongoing in this regard.
