Kuwait- Court Orders Arrest, Detention Of Officers


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Misdemeanor Court, chaired by Judge Mohammad Al-Mutairi, ordered arrest and detention of two detective officers for contempt due to failure to appear as witnesses in two cases for six consecutive times. One of the officers was supposed to serve as a witness in a drug-related case and the other in a murder case.

Meanwhile, the Administrative Court on Sunday started deliberations on a lawsuit filed by Attorney Abdul-Aziz Al-Sabi'e against the ministers of Health, Commerce and Industry, in addition to the General Customs Department, in a bid to prohibit the importation, circulation and sale of cigarettes and shisha in the country. He said the lawsuit is in line with Article 15/1995 of the Constitution which stipulates that the Ministry of Health should take care of public health by preventing diseases and epidemic.

Hearing adjourned: The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Hani Al-Hamdan, adjourned until Dec 15 the hearing on the appeal filed by Islamic Activist Mubarak Al-Bazali who has been sentenced to three years in jail with hard labor for insulting a certain group and provoking chaos.

However, lawyer for the plaintiff, Attorney Ali Al-Ali, submitted a petition against the defendant and asked the higher court to uphold the verdict of First Instance Court by imposing the maximum penalty on him. Earlier, the Public Prosecution charged the activist with posting offensive statements on his Twitter account and provoked hatred towards the Shiites
