Senate President, Iraqi Speaker discuss ties

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  Senate President Abdul Raouf Rawabdeh on Sunday welcomed the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Salim al-Jubouri, and his accompanying delegation currently visiting Jordan.

Rawabdeh said that Iraq is a historic Arab state, represents a strategic depth for Jordan just as Jordan represents a strategic depth for Iraq.

During the meeting, which was attended by the two senate vice presidents, Faisal al-Fayez and Marouf Bakhit, Rawabdeh said that Jordan, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, is interested in Iraq regaining its role as a strong and active entity in the Arab arena, unified and safe.

He noted that His Majesty the King and the Hashemites remained, all through the course of history, above all the unilateral agendas and had balanced thinking and insight for all categories and sectors of Arab and Islamic nation, as they are keen to safeguard the interest of all countries in the region.

The senate president stressed Jordan's keenness to follow a policy of non-interference in the affairs of others, discard extremism and fight it whatever its origin. He also stressed that Jordan's leadership and people have stood by Iraq in its current crisis.

Rawabdeh highlighted the Jordanian parliamentary march, explaining the role of the Senate, and the cooperation and coordination mechanisms with the Lower House, in accordance with the constitution, for the good of the Kingdom and its citizens.

Al-Jubouri praised Jordan's outstanding stance towards the Iraqi people in all circumstances, describing Jordan as a country of Arabism and traditions, and of peace, especially since it embraces refugees from Iraq, Syria and other places.

Al-Jubouri pointed to the tribal dimension between Iraq and Jordan and the blood ties among many Jordanian and Iraqi tribes, which live in both countries, adding that his accompanying parliamentary delegation represents all Iraqi sects, and they all want to open new horizons with Jordan.

He called for unifying efforts to fight extremism, which Iraq suffers from, adding that extremism does not represent Iraq or its components, and it is a strange phenomenon for the Iraqi people.

The Iraqi top official stressed that his country's Parliament supports the completion of the Iraqi oil export pipeline project through Jordan.
