Jordan focuses on promoting the modern state concept: says Ensour

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Sunday assured that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, focuses on promoting the modern state concept, in which every authority carries out its duties without interfering at the expense of any other authority.

Ensour made the observation during his lecture at the Royal Jordanian National Defense College wherein he said that the vision of a strong state envisages strong authorities in which an executive authority makes decisions and takes action while the Lower House watches its work and judiciary does not know what weakness is and is always characterized by fairness.

The Prime Minster stressed that the government does not see the House of Representatives as an opponent but rather as a partner in all matters of interest to the state, pointing out that whenever the government was very powerful, so was the House of Representatives. This will be the ideal situation, otherwise there will be room for corruption or bloatedness .

The premier reviewed his vision of the election law, pointing out that in any state, the election law evolves according to a country's needs and that of its society, stressing that the government will not submit the one person, one vote law to the House of Representatives.

Ensour recalled the efforts by his government to accomplish political reforms, as ordered by His Majesty the King, pointing out that the government sent to the House a bill related to political parties and will soon submit the decentralization draft law.

On the economic reforms, Ensour noted that last year and this year as well, the current expenditure has decreased and the budget deficit came down by 400 million dinars , while the electricity sector was an exception. Also, there has been more growth and exports too have increased.

He noted that the unemployment rate fell by one percentage point from last year, despite the number of refugees increasing and reaching about 11 percent, down from 12 percent .

Ensour said that the state budget for this year is about 10 billion dinars, of which two billion dinars were allocated for independent institutions, eight billion for public sector budget, which included two billion for civilian and military personnel's salaries and about two billion for pensions. He pointed out that the deficit, except for the loss due to electricity which is pegged at a billion and a half dinars, will remain up to 600 million dinars only.
