Suicide attack kills 45 people in E. Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A suicide attack targeting a volleyball tournament killed at least 45 people in Paktika province of eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, said officials.

The spokesman for the provincial governor of Paktika province, Mokhis Afghan confirming the toll said that over 50 people were also wounded in the attack. He told media that the attack happened during an inter-district tournament attended by a large crowed in the Yahyakhail district.

The suicide bomber was walking among spectators at the event when the device was detonated, he added. The injured were shifted to the nearby hospitals where death toll is feared to rise.

Paktika province borders Pakistan's northern tribal region facing militants' insurgency. The attack comes on the day Afghanistan's parliament signed off on an agreement that will allow NATO forces to stay in the country beyond 2014.
