Six candidates win seats in Bahraini parliament - Min.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Six candidates of 40 constituencies have won seats in Bahrain's Parliament in the first round of general elections as 34 remaining seats are to be contested in the runoff round next Saturday, a senior official announced Sunday.

Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs Khaled bin Ali Al-Khalifa said, in a press statement, that 68 candidates will take part in the runoff next Saturday in 34 constituencies, two candidates of each constituency.

According to Bahraini electoral law, voters are eligible to vote only for one candidate who will only win if he or she won 51 percent of votes. Meanwhile if percentage is less, a second round of voting would be held.

Al-Khalifa announced yesterday that around 51.5 percent of voters participated in the country's parliamentary elections.
