Turnout in Tunisia's presidential polls 40 pct - official


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Member of the Tunisian higher independent election commission Nabil Befon said nearly 40 percent of the eligible voters cast their ballots until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday to elect a president by direct vote for the first time in the country.

The percentage was 34 an hour ago, Befon told KUNA, noting that polling will come to a close at 6:00 p.m. local time.

He expected the percentage to rise further in the remaining hour and voiced hope that the Tunisian will seize this historic moment for determining the future of the country.
