Over 53 pct of Tunisian voters cast ballots in presidential polls

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The general voter turnout in the Tunisian presidential election reached 53.73 percent with the polling stations across the country closing down at 6:00 p.m. (local time), Sunday, said president of the higher independent election commission Shafiq Sarsar.

The largest number of voters showed up at the last hour of polling, Sarsar told a press conference this evening.

Ruling out any major violations, he said the election commission is working on reports that include any irregularity in the electoral process in detail and will make an announcement in this regard later on.

He commended the voters for their political awareness in choosing their destiny and the security services for protecting the polling stations countywide.
