UAE- Drive to curb fall accidents involving kids launched

Dubai — A nationwide awareness campaign to protect children from falling from buildings was launched in Dubai on Thursday.



Called the ‘National campaign to protect children from falling’ it plans to create safe environments for kids and evaluate safety measures in towers buildings and children’s play areas.



The campaign was launched at a Press conference at the Dubai Press Club headquarters in the presence of civil defence directors and heads of departments.



Major-General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi Acting Commander-in-Chief of the UAE Civil Defence said: “We decided to launch this campaign in line with the Universal Children’s Day which falls on November 20 annually as part of the safety strategy that the UAE Civil Defence follows and which is based on spreading awareness and implementing the best practices of protection in residential buildings.”



Major General Al Matroushi added that the campaign is planned in view of the increasing number of high-rise buildings coming up in the UAE and based on the child fall accident statistics at the regional and international levels and after a careful study conducted locally to examine the causes numbers and types of child fall accidents handled by the Civil Defence teams in some emirates from 2010 to 2013.



The campaign will last for three months starting from Thursday to February 20 2015 during which the officials will visit towers residential buildings schools and children’s play areas to spread awareness and evaluate safety measures at these places. More than 100 awareness and inspection teams are assigned for the campaign across the country.
