UAE's Arkan opens USD353.86m cement factory


(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi-based Arkan Building Material Company announced it has opened USD353.86 million cement factory outside Al Ain, with a capacity to produce 4 million metric tons of clinker and 5.7 million metric tonnes of cement per annum, Khallej Times reported.

The company said that the cement plant will source its raw material from its own queries in Al Ain and Oman, with expectations that the factory will meet the local requirements, since the company plans to utilize 90 percent of its output domestically and only exports 10 percent of its output to GCC countries.

The plant, which will boost Abu Dhabi's industrial might, is part of the country's plan to diversify and expand its industry as part of its policy of economic diversification

The factory is also expected to boost output capacity to 4 million tons of clinker per year compared with the current capacity of 900,000, as well as increasing the capacity of cement production to reach 5.6 million tons in comparison with its current capacity of 4.5 million tons.
