Sheikh Talal Apologizes To Kuwaiti Football Fans


(MENAFN- Arab Times) A large number of MPs and elite sports personalities have launched blistering attacks on the officials of Kuwait Football Association (KFA), blaming them for the humiliating loss to Qatar, and demanded the resignation of the president, members of the board, and the technical manager of Kuwait National Football Team, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The move has been rejected by Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad who apologized to the Kuwaiti fans that attended and supported the team, stressing the "technical and administrative organs will continue their work and the loss does not mean the coach or anyone should be sacked". It is reported that that coach Jorvan Vieira told the team's administration verbally he does not desire to go on with with the team and intends to resign but Talal Al-Fahad, the president of Kuwait Football Association said "we all bear responsibility for the loss and not the coach alone".

For his part, MP Faris Al- Otaibi said "Kuwait Football Association should resign and apologize to the fans of Kuwait" while MP Ouda Al Rowaei addressed Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad as saying "make the interests of Kuwait your main concern ahead of your personal issues and submit your resignation, and leave Kuwait Sports to recover".

Commenting on the events of Kuwait and Oman match, MP Roudhan Al-Roudhan said "those in charge of the Kuwaiti sports must feel ashamed", while MP Saleh Ashour called for the negligent coaches and players of the football association to be held accountable; stressing the Kuwaiti people will not accept setbacks and losses anymore. He urged the government to pay more attention to sports, athletes and young people by supporting the clubs to solve problems. MP Rakan Al-Nisf said sports cannot develop by mere reactions, adding that sport is an industry which should not be driven by reaction.

He stressed on the statement of the president of the association and said "it's impracticable seeking dissolution of the association and I am in no doubt that the Kuwaiti fans do not seek the dissolution of the squad but a man of morale that bears responsibility". MP Abdullah Maayouf said it is an insult to the heads of clubs who voted Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad to the presidency for challenging Kuwaitis that they cannot dissolve the association.

Meanwhile, activist Dr Ahmed Al-Munayes is surprised with recent rumors saying the Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim has called Talal Al-Fahd to express sympathy on the team's loss. He pointed out that the responsible official in the developed countries is held accountable for losses and not be sympathized with" adding the National Assembly holds historic duty to the people of Kuwaiti and the official should be held accountable for the repeated failures in sports.
