Erdogan discusses with Biden Turkey's role in US-led coalition against ISIL

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US Vice President Joe Biden discussed Turkey's role in the international US-led coalition against Islamic State (ISIL) insurgents in Iraq and Syria.

Turkey wants to establish a security zone in northern Syria to allow so-called moderate opposition to organize themselves, a matter that the US does not see eye to eye on as of yet.

Earlier Biden, who arrived on Friday, welcomed an agreement reached between the provincial government of Iraqi Kurdistan, in the north, and Baghdad on managing oil exports, saying it was a step forward in resolving a dispute that was threatening the unity of Iraq.

After attending the Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit, he also said that Washington backs the development of an oil pipeline from Basra to Turkey's port of Ceyhan in the Mediterranean.

On the Ukraine, he warned that Russia should not use energy as a political weapon, saying that this represents a breach of international legislation.
