US unemployment rates dip in 34 states in October


(MENAFN) Unemp"loyment rates fell in 34 US states in October, a sign that steady hiring this year has been broadly dispersed through most of the country, Gulf Daily News reported.

The US unemployment rate stood at 5.8 percent, a six-year low. Nationwide, employers added 214,000 jobs in October, the ninth straight month of gains above 200,000, marking the longest stretch since 1995.

The US Labor Department data showed that unemployment rates increased in just five states, the fewest since April, while rates were unchanged in 11 states.

The biggest gains occurred in California, which added 41,500; Texas gained 35,200; and Florida added 34,400, while Nevada reported the largest job loss, a decline of 7,300.
