OUTER BANKS N.C. - The fourth Season of OBXmas Weekends has inspired new events and more tourism dollars dedicated to providing Outer Banks visitors reasons to come enjoy the Holidays on the North Carolina coast.

Community Christmas tree lightings and Holiday parades are planned from Duck NC to Hatteras and Roanoke Islands spanning one hundred coastal miles on the Outer Banks. Fun races food events amazing light displays and outside-the-box celebrations span the November and December calendar.

"It supports the trend of people recognizing that the OBX is so much more than just a popular beach vacation" explains Lee Nettles Executive Director of the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau. "The magic keeps going all year it just transforms with the seasons. OBXmasWeekends.com was created to show how you can have a Holiday reunion at the beach no matter what island you love most and start new traditions together. There's something great to enjoy every weekend for the rest of the year."

OBXmasWeekends.com is a super easy site for finding out what is happening when and where during the Holidays and the events you get to choose from are very creative.

From Kites with Lights high atop sand dune mountains to a chef's tournament using charitable food pantry items to Santa swimming in a shark tank the Outer Banks community takes the prize for inventive celebrations of the Season.

"WinterLights is about 10 acres of displays set amid statues 500 years old and keeps getting more amazing every year. There's the winter climb of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Bluegrass band sensation Nu Blu is hosting a new show called HollyJollyOBX the same weekend as the Roanoke Island Christmas Weekend Parade of Homes and Christmas Past at Island Farm 1847. There's really something for everyone."

Four Thanksgiving Day races and fun runs officially start the clock on the OBXmas Weekends calendar but a bounty of more subtle celebrations await those Holiday visitors who do not like to eat and run.

"We have people who come here just for the fall and winter because the rates are so good on accommodations like vacation rental homes hotels and inns in the ‘less busy’ months" explains Nettles. "It's an ideal time to travel if you don't have to follow the school vacation calendar plus the islands are centrally located on the East Coast for getting families together from across the country. Our tourism partners have put together travel packages on the site to help make it all neat and easy for you to plan your visit. We hope to see you."

The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau is the destination marketing organization for Dare County's Outer Banks. According to the latest state estimates Dare County's tourism-related expenditures surpassed $953 million dollars in 2013 supporting more than 11750 jobs locally.
