Ajman stun Al Jazira in Arabian Gulf Cup

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Ajman kept their chances alive to claim one of the two berths reserved for Group A in the last four of the ongoing Arabian Gulf Cup with a well-deserved 2-0 away victory over the Abu Dhabi giants Al Jazira at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE capital on Wednesday evening.

Ajman raised their tally to four points from three starts and have a very good chance to improve with three rounds remaining though they have a big ground to cover as they are five points off the pace.

Al Shabab are showing the way with perfect nine points after the Slashers have won all their three starts in the competition. Al Jazira, in contrast, have collected three points from four outings and need a miracle to make their presence felt.

Ahmed Malalla visited the back of the net in the fourth minute from the kickoff but his celebrations were halted by the lineman after being caught in the offside trap.

However, the visitors continued to press their hosts and their efforts paid dividends with a lovely move that ended in a penalty kick in that earned Ajman the lead towards the 36th minute. Al Jazira youngster brought down Ajman striker Driss Fettouhi and the visitors were awarded what could be a correct penalty which was perfectly executed by Waleed Ahmed who made no mistake from the spot.

Ajman scoring machine Boris Kabi operated in the dangerous zone of Al Jazira vulnerable defensive area and tackled defender Hamad Al Hammadi before he had unleashed a long right footer from the mouth of the box that sailed freely into the back of the net to double the score-sheet with five minutes remaining for the first period to go into the break on a winning note. In Fujairah, Bani Yas moved above Arabian Gulf Cup holders Al Ahli into third position in Group B with a 3-0 away win at Fujairah in Round 4 of the competition. The win gives the Sky Blues 6 points from 3 games, whilst Fujairah have just 2 points from their 4 matches.

After a goalless first half, the deadlock was finally broken just after the hour mark as Haboush Saleh found the net for the visitors in the 62nd minute. The floodgates then opened for Bani Yas, who made it 2-0 four minutes later through Denis Stracqualursi, and two minutes after that it was 3-0 as Talib Salem hit a third goal in the 68th minute.
