UAE- Hamilton Rosberg fight to be F1 champion

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) For the first time ever Abu Dhabi race will offer double points to make the final race more spectacular.

Abu Dhabi: Brace up for a weekend of speed thrills and the spills. The Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is upon us and the sixth staging of the race at the spectacular Yas Marina Circuit promises to be a cracker.

Abu Dhabi has witnessed thrilling finishes to a Formula One season but this one could be the best yet. Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg go head-to-head in the Capital over the weekend with the former holding the edge. But with double points on offer for the first time in F1 history this would be a tight one to call.

The Capital’s credentials as an F1 venue was boosted when it was announced at the Abu Dhabi F1 Festival in 2007 that it will host a race in 2009. And then work began on the sprawling Yas Island. Once a barren desert a magnificent structure now stands with the Yas Viceroy Hotel nestled in between illuminating itself to the world.

With a large expat population and race fans touching down from different corners of the world the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is now part of the social fabric. As the winter sets in it is time to go racing. This season’s race will see the Yas Marina Circuit increase its capacity from 55000 to 60000. The popular Abu Dhabi Hill which was introduced last season and made race viewing more affordable has also doubled its capacity.

As of last week only 2500 tickets remained and it seems like another sell-out. Al Tareq Al Ameri the CEO of the Yas Marina Circuit will be overseeing his first F1 race after being promoted in March this year.

And the Emirati who will be overseeing the Circuit into a new era said: “With the driver’s championship coming down to Yas Marina Circuit demand is at its peak. People have been aware that we have had the largest ticket allocation ever for the event in Abu Dhabi this year with a total capacity of 60000. But with less than two weeks to go we’re down to fewer than 2500 tickets. Don’t miss out on your chance to enjoy this fantastic racing and entertainment spectacle.”

Besides the F1 action there are various off-track activities and after race concerts to keep you entertained.

All in all an action packed race weekend.
