US congratulates Burkina Faso on transition charter

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))  The US congratulated the people of Burkina Faso on Tuesday for the signing of the transition charter by representatives of civil society, political parties, religious leaders, and the military.

"This will guide the transition to full civilian rule," said State Department Director of Press Office Jeff Rathke to reporters.

This transitional charter will place an interim legislative chamber and a transitional leader until elections are created next year. Michel Kafando was selected as interim president, a choice the US also showed support of.

"We also urge the men and women of Burkina Faso's armed forces to return to their primary mission safeguarding the territorial integrity of Burkina Faso and the security of its citizens," stressed Rathke.

The US reiterated its hope that the central mission of the transitional government will be to ensure effective preparation for national elections in November 2015.
