UNGA's 3rd cmte adopts Human Rights resolution against DPRK, Iran, Syria


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The UN General Assembly's third committee adopted here several draft resolutions concerning human rights violations, including Syria, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Iran.

The Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) adopted draft resolution on Human Rights situation in DPRK which was approved by a recorded vote of 111 in favor, 19 against and 55 abstentions.

The committee requested for Security Council to consider referring it to International Criminal Court.

The draft resolution condemned the long-standing and ongoing systematic, widespread and gross violations of human rights in DPRK.

On a similar note, the committee then approved two draft texts separately on the situation of human rights in Iran and Syria.

On Iran situation, the committee adopted the draft by a vote of 78 in favor to 35 against, and 69 abstentions. While on Syria, 125 votes were in favor, 13 against and 47 abstentions
