(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Airways (QA)will operate a daily direct scheduled service from Hamad International Airport (HIA) to Edinburgh Airport from May 1, 2015.
The announcement follows the launch of the five-weekly service on the route and reinforces QA's commitment to add frequencies on the route as announced at the launch. The daily QR027 outbound service and QR028 inbound service, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, will give passengers greater access to the 145 worldwide destinations served by QA through its hub at HIA.
The route has this year allowed enhanced travel times from the Scottish capital to destinations around the world with one smooth transfer through HIA without the need for any domestic transfers in the UK.
QA Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: "We are pleased to offer further choice and flexibility to passengers to and from Edinburgh. Offering a daily service to Edinburgh reflects the popularity of the route since its launch in May and the new daily service will allow QA to further support and promote Scotland's leisure and business opportunities to markets on our global network."
The most popular destinations for those using the route are predominantly in Asia and Australasia, with journey times to Melbourne reduced from about 26 hours with two transfers to 20 with one quick transfer at HIA.
Edinburgh is QA's third destination in the UK after London in 1997 and Manchester in 2003. The airline operates six non-stop flights daily from London Heathrow to Doha, including 'Business One' class A319. It also operates 10 non-stop flights a week from Manchester to Doha.
According to the schedule, QR027 will leave Doha at 07:45 to arrive in Edinburgh at 13:00 and QR028 will depart from Edinburgh at 14:30 to arrive in Doha at 23:30.
