Italian FM says recognition of Palestine is EU policy

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni Monday said it is a goal of the EU to recognize an independent Palestinian state.

Gentiloni, who is attending an EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels, told journalists that "the recognition (of the Palestinian State) is a goal in the context of a policy that wants two States: the one of Israel, in its safety and one for the Palestinian people." "It's not a symbolic act of recognition to make out of political reasons, it is a goal in the context of the two-states strategy and therefore it must be done at the most appropriate moment and in the most appropriate way," he added.

The EU foreign ministers are discussing two main topics, Ukraine and the Middle East.
