The nonprofit is the charitable arm of Hawaii Private Locators LLC (HPL).
HPL is a new company formed locally to provide a unique service to all Hawaii homebuyers: underground home inspections. Currently in the islands there are only aboveground home inspections or termite inspections available to prospective property owners but nothing belowground.
Dave Dickey the owner of HPL has extensive previous experience in real estate utility-pipe locating leak detection general contracting cable television and in satellite systems and is a self-taught electrician and plumber.
Through forming HPL-LLC and the nonprofit (National Association of Private Utility Inspectors — so-called to invoke the Hawaiian word “hui” or group) Dickey wants to fulfill a dream of helping others start their own underground inspection businesses.

“It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to mentor others in the path I’ve chosen — to do underground inspections for private government and commercial entities” said Dickey. “I envision the growth of a professional trade community in this field creating a forum for new ideas and techniques and developing a support network for new worldwide start-ups.”
Reaching the Indiegogo goal of USD $5500.00 will help provide advice to those looking to start their own underground inspection business perform charity work in the form of funding college scholarships and create a professional support network and trade association for those in the new underground inspection field including scholarships for future inspectors.
