Iran's wheat imports up 124 percent in 7M
(MENAFN) Iran imported over 3.753 million tons of wheat in the March-October period, increasing 124 percent over the same period last year, Tehran Times reported.
The country imported USD1.298 billion worth of wheat in the seven-month period of 2014, a 95 percent rise year on year, the ISNA news agency reported on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Iran imported 1.672 million tons of wheat valued at over USD666 million during the first seven months of the past Iranian calendar year (March 21-October 22).
In recent years, Iran has imported around 5 million tons of the staple as traders say that Iran is stepping up its grain import activity, but sources estimate the current requirement at up to 6 million tons.
