(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The International Day of Tolerance is a great value that guarantees survival of humanity and protection of human rights through spreading and enhancing toleration, a senior official said on Sunday.
The Interior Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Information Technology and Communication Affairs Sheikh Meshaal Al-Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah made the remark in his address to a ceremony held at the Ministry on the occasion of the annual International Tolerance Day, Nov 16.
Motivated by its security and social responsibilities, the Ministry launched a campaign to celebrate the world annual occasion, he added.
Sheikh Meshaal referred to the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center", reflecting a world consensus.
Sheikh Meshaal noted that the Ministry, with Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on top, is keen on disseminating values of toleration to counter violence and protect the society against negative phenomena.
For his part, Ministry Undersecretary for Public Security Department Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali, told the event that the Declaration of the Principles of Tolerance adopted by the UN reveals that variation is inevitable in humanity and toleration means respecting this variation and differences. It tacitly includes recognition of others' human rights.
Under His Highness the Amir, Kuwait has become a global "Humanitarian Center" and so the slogan chosen for this year's celebration by the Ministry is "Tolerance is Bestowal," he noted.
