The Dubai Police have arrested a gang of three Armenians who allegedly robbed a Russian woman’s flat at knifepoint recently and were involved in a series of similar thefts in the emirate.

On October 31 the police’s Operations Room was informed about a theft in a residential area in Dubai. The police rushed to the site and a 27-year-old Russian N.Z. told the police that an unidentified man broke into her flat on the 12th floor of a building with a knife and threatened that he would kill her if she did not give him the pin code of the safe locker that was in her room.

The woman said she got scared and gave him the pin code. The man took away Dh1200 and her mobile phones. On leaving he threatened her saying that he would come back and punish her if she informed the police. Following the report the police formed a team and launched a search for the culprits.

The team managed to identify three suspects — 32-year-old I.G. 29-year-old Y.E. and 30-year-old S.A. — who had been involved in similar thefts. The police raided their room in a hotel in Rafaa area and arrested them.

During interrogation the suspects confessed to the crime and the police recovered some of the stolen items found in their possession. They have been referred to the Public Prosecution on the charge of forcible theft.
