Two People Killed in Swiss Landslide

(MENAFN- QNA) Two people died Sunday and four were injured when a house was destroyed by a landslide in the Swiss city of Lugano, police said.

Following heavy rainfalls in the southern canton of Ticino, the landslide hit a three-story residential building early in the morning.

According to German press agency (dpa), rescue workers and their dogs who searched the rubble found the dead 38-year-old and 34-year-old women in the rubble, as well as an injured 44-year-old man from Italy, whom police said was expected to survive.

Three others escaped from the building with only minor injuries.

Several landslides swept down rain-drenched slopes in the canton of Ticino overnight. Some roads were under water and had to be closed when Lake Lugano overflowed.
