Italy's GDP edges down 0.1 percent in Q3

(MENAFN) According to the national statistics institute (Istat), the Italian gross domestic product (GDP) has edged down 0.1 percent in the July-September period of 2014, Xinhua reported.

The statistics agency also said that the country's GDP for the third-quarter period was 0.4 percent lower than that registered in the same quarter a year earlier.

On a quarterly basis, the Italian GDP was down 0.2 percent in the second-quarter period, while it registered a zero growth rate in the January-March quarter of the current year.

Italy has lost around 9 percent of GDP since the start of the global economic crisis in 2008, and is currently struggling with record-high unemployment and social discontent.
