Denmark Pledges 90 Million in Annual Aid to Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kabul November 14 (QNA) - Denmark has pledged $90 million in annual aid to Afghanistan until 2017. The commitment was made on Thursday by the Foreign Minister of Denmark Mr. Martin Lidegaard during a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Zarar Ahmad Osmani Afghan Khaama press reported.



Reiterating his country cooperation in different areas Lidegaard said: "Denmark is committed that based on the strategic agreement between Afghanistan and Denmark the government of Denmark will support Afghanistan annually US $90 million till 2017".



Khaama Press quoted Lidegaard as saying: "The security and stability in Afghanistan is of importance for the government and people of Denmark; therefore the people and government of Denmark welcome the agreement of Afghan leaders for establishing the government of National Unity. I hope the government of National Unity utilize the existed potentials in Afghanistan and put utmost efforts to ensure everlasting security and stability as well as fight against corruption education development and strengthening the role of women in Afghanistan".



Afghan Foreign Minister Osmani said: "The Kingdom of Denmark have made significant and invaluable contributions in the last 13 years with Afghanistan in various spheres as well as the presence of Danish soldiers within ISAF mission has greatly helped the Afghani government in providing security stability and progress in the country".
