S. Korea India Hold Summit on Greater Cooperation


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Seoul November 13 (QNA) - South Korea's President Park Geun-hye and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and discussed how to strengthen the strategic partnership and economic cooperation between the two countries.



In the summit held in Myanmar Wednesday Park proposed to set up a ministerial-level joint panel on improving the South Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment.

The South Korean president asked the Indian prime minister to pay greater attention to revising a double taxation prevention treaty between the two countries.

The presidential office said Modi expressed support for Park’s proposal and request.



The president also asked the Indian government to help more South Korean defense companies enter the Indian market. She noted that the two countries have established an institutional foundation for promoting cooperation in the defense sector with a mutual military information agreement taking effect recently.

Park requested that the Indian prime minister help South Korean steelmaker POSCO win a mining right and materialize its project to build a steel mill in the Indian state of Odisha. (QNA)
