Merkel Says Situation in Ukraine Unacceptable


(MENAFN- QNA) German Chancellor Angela Merkel reduced hopes pinned on her meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a solution to the conflict in the East of Ukraine.

Referring to the meeting she will hold with Putin on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in the Australian city of Brisbane, Merkel said she did not expect any "sudden, qualitative changes" following the talks.

She told reporters that "The present situation is not satisfying," adding: "At present the listing of further persons is on the agenda." The European Union's foreign ministers are scheduled to meet on Monday in Brussels to hold consultations about the imposition of further sanctions against other persons responsible for the conflict in the eastern part of of the former Soviet Republic.
