(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A 40-metre-long Floating House from Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Waves is the largest boat displayed at the second edition of Qatar International Boat Show which concludes today at Mourjan Marinas, Lusail City.
The boat has six bedrooms, with private bathrooms, optional Jacuzzis, two master living rooms, a cinema, an upper flybridge, outside platforms for dropping jetski or small boats, among others.
The fibre-glass hulled boat has a top speed of around 16 knots. It took about 18 months to build and costs around QR12m.
The show is featuring 70 boats, one of which is a Lagoon 39 catamaran from the Beneteau Group, represented by Tan Services in the Gulf. The Lagoon 39 has been sold to a Qatari, while a Lagoon 38 was recently sold in Dubai and a Lagoon 52 to a Saudi.
Gulf Craft, a major manufacturer of luxury yachts and fiber-glass boats, is participating in the expo with a range of Majesty Yachts, including six boats from 40-foot to Majesty 101, a 30.8-metre boat with 91 tonne displacement, which is one of the largest yachts in this year's show.
To highlight Qatar's increasing role in the international maritime industry, representatives of the world's media were taken on a tour of Nakilat Damen Shipyards (NDSQ), Ras Laffan, as one of the special events as part of the expo.
The shipyards, at Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard, has access to world-class facilities equipped with latest technologies, machines and tools available in the shipbuilding industry.
"I am delighted to welcome you to the shipyards and show you our facilities used for building superyachts, commercial ships and naval craft in steel, aluminium or modern fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP)," said Managing Director, Rino Brugge.
The facility is capable of building ships using steel, aluminium or FRP, with a length of up to 170-metre. It has two travel lifts capable of lifting 1,100 tonnes and 300 tonnes respectively € the former being the largest such hoist in any boatyard worldwide. Fourteen major refits of yachts, up to 80-metre in length were carried out since the start of the operation.
The shipyards is building two 71.5-metre fast diving vessels. The high-speed vessels are being equipped with facilities, including a decompression chamber, to support offshore diving. The show is open from 3pm until 9.30pm. Entry is free
