Myanmar Opposition Leader Criticizes her Country's Constitution

(MENAFN- QNA) Myanmar's opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi has criticized her country's constitution which barred her from running for presidential elections.

At a joint press conference with US President Barak Obama Suu Kyi described the provision barring her from running for president as "unfair and unacceptable".

For his part, Obama said "I don't understand a provision that would bar somebody from running for president because of who their children are," Obama said, with Suu Kyi by his side. "That doesn't make much sense to me." He called for a fair and free elections.

This came a year ahead of the presidential elections that will be held at the end of 2015 which could bring Suu Kyi to the presidency if the constitution was amended to allow her run for elections.
