US to Send Advisors to Help Countries Prosecute Foreign Fighters

(MENAFN- QNA) The US will send legal advisors to other countries to help them prosecute suspected terrorists returning from fighting in Syria, Attorney General Eric Holder said.

The US Justice Department will send advisors to the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa to help governments improve their capacity to investigate and prosecute so-called foreign fighters, Holder said after meeting with European Union officials in Washington.

"These personnel would provide critical assistance to our allies in order to help prosecute those who return from the Syrian region bent on committing acts of terrorism," he said.

The effort will include the stationing of a regional counterterrorism advisor in the Balkans and prosecutors in 10 Middle Eastern and North African nations, dpa reported.
