(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi sacked 26 army officers and sent 10 others into retirement on Wednesday.
Al-Abadi, who also serves as armed forces commander in chief, issued his orders of dismissal including appointing 18 officers in various centers during a reception of military commanders in his office earlier, the premier office said in a statement.
Al-Abadi also named 18 commanders of new Defence ministry posts, as part of efforts to "reinforce the military along professional lines and fight all forms of corruption." The Iraqi premier expressed his intention to rebuild the armed forces and take concrete measures to fight corruption as well.
The move is to regain the trust in the armed forces after complicated internal and external complications and policies to the armed forces, the premier noted.
