Qatar- Business heads discuss plans, key strategies


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) About 100 senior business executives from top global companies in Qatar yesterday held a meeting to discuss some key challenges and opportunities, including procurement policy and payment systems in the country.

The meeting, which was jointly convened by American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham Qatar) and the German Business Council Qatar (GBCQ), examined strategies for business success, procurement policy and strategy, talent recruitment in the Gulf state.

The AmCham Qatar and GBCQ made a united effort to give business leaders in Qatar the insights and information they need to support the development and diversification of Qatar's private sector, according to a press joint press statement.

The session was moderated by John Forde, Founder and Director of PRO-Partnership and COO of the Bethel Group. Forde has lived in Qatar since 1978. Sheikh Abdulrahman Hassan Al Thani, Chairman of the Bethel Group, and Saleh Hamad Al Sharqi, Deputy General Manager of the Qatar Chamber, were the guests.

The expert panel agreed that having a strong presence on the ground in Qatar and a long-term commitment to doing business in the market were the two top factors for success. AmCham Qatar Chairman, Robert A Hager said: "AmCham Qatar is proud to partner with our friends at the German Business Council Qatar to talk about the issues that matter to businesses here - furthering the development and diversification of Qatar's vibrant and rapidly expanding private sector."

Henning Zimmermann, Deputy Chairman of the GBCQ and Director of DB Schenker, Overseas Cargo, said: "United in the mission to support and strengthen Qatar's position as a leading business hub, it is hugely beneficial to organise joint meetings with our partners at AmCham Qatar. The panel included leading figures from companies operating in Qatar and the Middle East, including Philipp M Luehrs, Regional Vice President Middle East, Deugro; Greg Bergida, Director of Student Affairs, Northwestern University of Qatar; Jِrg Bauch, Area Sales Manager and Country Manager Qatar, MAN Truck & Bus Middle East & Africa FZE; and Gregor F Mannherz, Director Middle East Office, Middle East and North Africa Business Strategies and Politics, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems International Qatar.
