Oman- Meet on shared values to promote dialogue between cultures

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The 'Shared Values in a Multicultural World' conference which will be held from November 23 to 25 is aimed at promoting dialogue between different cultures and find common solutions to problems.

The conference is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MARA) and Brazilian Latin Academy and will be held at the Council of Ministers headquarters in Al Bustan.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday Dr Salim al Kharusi advisor to the Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs said 'In light of modern changes and rapidly moving human societies there must be dialogue and meetings to find useful solutions to [issues in society]' he said. 'Humans must work together because they have shared interests.'

Kharusi said that the Brazilian Latin Academy organises two such conferences every year on similar issues.

'The academy seeks to build understanding between Brazil's Latino culture and other cultures of the world. This was the first time that the conference is being held in the Gulf.'

He said that MARA and the academy had signed a memorandum of understanding which called for cooperation between the two entities based on shared goals.

'Both entities are committed to spread understanding across cultures. This matches with the ministry's [goal] of spreading moral values' he said. 

Among the 20 speakers at the conference will be former Portugal prime minister Jorge Sampaio.
