Kuwaiti lawmakers arrive to take part in AIPU meeting

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation taking part in the 15th meeting of the Executive Committee of Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) arrived here on Tuesday.

In remarks to KUNA, head of the delegation MP Faisal Al-Shayea, said the meeting would deal with a wide number of administrative issues having impact on the running of this large organization, not the least of which will be selecting the next AIPU secretary general.

He revealed that two candidates for the post, one from Oman and another from Jordan, were vying for it and that a final decision on whom the choice would rest on would be announced in a meeting in February.

Delegation member MP Saleh Ashour in similar remarks to KUNA said such meetings among lawmakers to discuss the latest regional issues were highly beneficial.

Affirming the same was also delegation member MP Saif Al-Azmi who said the meetings should discuss the Palestinian cause, among other topics, because it was a pan-Arab cause that needed a permanent solution.

AIPU's Secretary-General Nour Al Deen Bouchkouj said in similar statements to KUNA that the first meeting of the Executive Committee would take place tomorrow presided by Kuwait and would focus primarily on administrative and financial issues.

Furthermore the idea of granting a prize for parliamentary excellence to a distinguished lawmaker would be discussed, with the emphasis on giving it to one whose contributions to Arab parliamentary work were well-documented, he said.
