Ban condemns Nigeria's suicide bombing

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the suicide bombing at the government boarding school in Potiskum village, Yobe State, northeast Nigeria, which has reportedly killed at least 47 students and wounded over 100 others on Monday.

Ban extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved families and to the Government and people of Nigeria, according to a statement attributable to his press office.

The UN chief was outraged by the frequency and brutality of attacks against educational institutions in the north of the country and reiterates his demand for an immediate cessation to these abominable crimes, the statement said.

Ban called for the perpetrators to be swiftly brought to justice through a process respectful of Nigeria's human rights obligations and for adequate security measures to be provided for the protection of civilians, as he reiterated his firm conviction that no objective justifies wanton violence against civilians, it added.
