Japan's SMBC purchases 80 Boeing jets worth USD8.5b


(MENAFN) Japanese aircraft leasing giant SMBC Aviation Capital said it has placed an order for 80 Boeing planes in a deal worth around USD8.5 billion, AFP reported.

The Sumitomo Corp -owned company said its purchase of the 737 MAX 8 aircraft marked the single largest order for the plane by a leasing company as it looks to further tap the lucrative sector.

"Today's announcement shows our ongoing commitment to the new generation of the popular 737 family, as well as our appetite to keep broadening and deepening our platform," SMBC Aviation's chief executive said.
