Korea and China Agree to Enhance Efforts to Lead N. Korea to Abandon Nukes

(MENAFN- QNA) South Korea's President Park Geun-hye and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to enhance efforts to lead North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.
Park and Xi reached the agreement on Monday during their fifth summit held on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing.
Ju Chul-ki, presidential secretary for foreign and security affairs, said the two leaders agreed to discuss ways to resume meaningful dialogue with the North to prevent the regime from advancing its nuclear capabilities and to denuclearize Pyongyang.
The presidential secretary said that during the summit, the Chinese president reaffirmed his position against Pyongyang’s nuclear program. Xi also told Park that his government will examine what it can do together with South Korea to support the North.
He also expressed support for a peaceful reunification of the two Koreas through inter-Korean cooperation and reconciliation.
At the meeting, President Park also reiterated that if the North abandons its nuclear weapons, Seoul, in cooperation with the international community, is ready to help Pyongyang participate in the global economy and seek progress, South Korea's KBS World reported.
Meanwhile, Park praised the agreement between South Korea, China and Japan to normalize their three-way cooperation during September’s high-level talks. Park and Xi agreed on the need to hold a foreign ministers’ meeting among the three nations within this year.
