(MENAFN- The Peninsula) In support of its objectives to spread awareness and enhance care and prevention, Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), member of Qatar Foundation, has partnered with Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Limited (Oxy Qatar) for the second time this year to make use of its diabetes education mobile unit.
A QDA team visited Oxy's facilities in Ras Laffan for a half-day diabetes awareness programme for their employees and contractors. The unit is run and supervised by physicians and diabetes educators, and consists of three rooms - for education and blood sugar testing; eye examination with a retinal camera; and foot care.
Eighty-four employees had their blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol checked. Those with high blood pressure and high cholesterol met the dietician for eating advice to lower cholesterol levels. Tests were also offered for feet, eyes, and blood sugar and dietary counselling was provided.
Oxy Qatar has been a long-standing supporter of QDA and helped equip the unit in 2012.
