Toronto's main market advanced for a third straight day Friday as jobless rates in the nation and the U.S. its largest trading partner dropped to a six-year low in October.

In corporate activity Enerplus (TSE:ERF) gained 11.8 percent to C$16.99 after the oil company operating in western Canada raised its annual average production guidance after reporting a jump in third-quarter output.

Athabasca Oil (TSE:ATH) added 3.8 percent to C$3.31 after the oil-sands developer focused on Alberta said its third-quarter loss narrowed to 5 Canadian cents a share from a loss of 7 Canadian cents while cash flow improved to 3 Canadian cents from a loss of 1 Canadian cent.

Crew Energy (TSE:CR) leaped 8.9 percent to C$8.11 even as the oil and gas company operating in Western Canada reported a wider loss in the third quarter and lower sales output and funds from operations.

Secure Energy Services (TSE:SES) fell 1.9 percent to C$20.58 even as the company said its third quarter earnings rose by a penny while revenue jumped 37 percent. It also increased its dividend by 20 percent effective January 1 2015.

In financials TMX Group (TSE:X) fell 1.5 percent to C$52.90 after the operator of Canada's biggest stock exchange reported a lower-than-expected third-quarter profit weakened by sluggish trading revenue from tis BOX options exchange and cash markets.

Brookfield Asset Management (TSE:BAM.A) rose 1.3 percent to C$55.97 even after reporting its funds from operations fell to 83 cents per share from $1.85.

GMP Capital (TSE:GMP) added 1.3 percent to C$6.37 after swinging to a third quarter profit of 5 cents per share benefiting from a jump in investment banking fees and improved performance from its US and international operations.

In other stocks Cardiome Pharma (TSE:COM) (NASDAQ:CRME) edged up after saying results from a phase 3 study of its Brinavess product in the Asia-Pacific region were positive achieving the primary endpoint. The cardiovascular-focused pharmaceutical company also issued third quarter results posting a narrower loss than a year ago on a per share basis.

Tekmira Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:TKMR) (TSE:TKM) a company that has been closely watched for its development of a drug to combat the Ebola crisis rose 4.3 percent to C$18.80 on Friday after announcing its third quarter results.

Moving to junior markets in Canada NioCorp Developments (CVE:NB) (OTCQX:NIOBF) says it is extremely pleased with its updated resource report for its Elk Creek niobium deposit in Nebraska as the company continues to progress development at the site. The newest resource estimate shows an indicated resource of 28.2 million tonnes grading 0.63% niobium containing 177 million kilograms of niobium and an inferred resource of 132.8 million tonnes grading 0.55% containing 733.7 million kilograms of niobium at a 0.3% cutoff grade.

Gondwana Oil (CSE:GO) said it has changed its name to European Metals Corp effective from September 18 to better reflect its ongoing operations.

Supreme Pharmaceuticals (CSE:SL) has bolstered the maximum size of its private placement announced earlier this month to $2.0 million from $1.0 million previously.
