Qatar- DFI to show Singapore's Oscars entry Ilo Ilo

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Ilo Ilo, Singapore's entry at last year's Oscars, will be screened from November 15 to 17, 7pm at Katara Drama Theatre, as part of Katara-Doha Film Institute (DFI) Cinema.

Anthony Chen's directorial debut won more than 10 major awards, including Camera d'Or, at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Time Out New York magazine defined the highly acclaimed film as a satisfying beam of compassion.

Ilo Ilo narrates the story of a family of three and their relationship with their newly arrived maid Teresa, who, like many Filipinas, has come in search of a better life. The family needs to adapt to the presence of the stranger, which threatens their already strained relationship.

Teresa and Jiale, the young and troublesome boy she cares for, soon form a bond. Their connection continues to develop and she becomes an unspoken part of the family. But this is 1997 and the Asian financial crisis is starting to be felt in the region.

Katara-DFI Cinema, which brings monthly screenings of finest films from around the world, is part of creative collaboration between DFI and Katara Village to strengthen appreciation of good films among the public. Tickets are on sale at www.dohafilminstitute.com and at the Katara Drama Theatre Ticket Outlet, (Katara Building 16) from 2pm to 8pm. They are priced at QR35 for the general public and QR25 for students with valid student ID.
