(MENAFN) A total of 5 of 8 major Japanese automakers, containing Toyota Motor Corp., registered record-high group net profits for the first half of fiscal 2014, as a drop in domestic sales was offset by robust overseas results due to a weaker yen, Kyodo News reported.
Honda Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co. and Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., posted the biggest sales for the six months through September, with Nissan and Fuji heavy expanding unit sales in their key market of North America.
Car sales decreased from the April consumption tax hike, which resulted in household spending and slowed industrial output.
