S. Korea's Asiana Airlines net profit down 83.7 percent in Q3


(MENAFN) South Korea's Asiana Airlines Inc. announced posting a net profit drop of 83.7 percent in the July-September period to USD12.4 million, Yonhap News reported.

However, the carrier's sales edged up 0.3 percent to USD1.39 billion in the period, while its operating profits surged 3.6 percent to USD60.46 million, the airlines said.

"Asiana Airlines Inc. experienced exchange losses in the third quarter as the U.S. dollar strengthened against the Korean won," a corporate source said in a statement.

For the next quarter, the airline said it plans to launch more flights to existing destinations in Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as start chartered flights to several Chinese cities.
